If you’ve ever wondered who Danika is, she’s the four-legged heart behind everything I do. Danika Jane is my Weimaraner, my constant companion and the inspiration behind the name Danika’s Touch.
She was only five months old when I was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January 2021. My life changed very quickly, and suddenly I found myself stepping away from the disaster recovery work that had been such a large part of who I was.
Danika didn’t care about any of that.
She still needed to go outside. She still wanted attention. She still expected me to get out of bed every morning. And somehow, having that little gray dog depending on me gave me something incredibly important: purpose.
As I began finding my way through a very different life than the one I’d planned, I also found myself creating.
I’ve always loved building things and working with my hands. Making wreaths gave me somewhere to put that creativity. I could take an idea in my head, work with colors and textures, move things around until they felt right and eventually turn a pile of materials into something beautiful for someone else’s home.
And Danika was there for all of it.
Today, she’s officially known around here as The Resident Weimy. She keeps me company while I create and occasionally gives a project her approval with a wag of the little nib of her tail.
Of course, there’s usually a chance she just thinks a cookie might be involved.
Either way, I couldn’t imagine calling this little business anything else.
Danika’s Touch isn’t just a name. It’s a reminder of where this all began, how far we’ve come and the four-legged best friend who’s been beside me through all of it.
